Welcome back to Inside the Blue and White! Students had an exciting week in the Valley, a week marked by cold weather and lots to get done. To start the week off, the admin named our students of the month and most improved students of the month!
At the high school, Natalie Hernandez was recognized as Student of the Month and Trynaidee Walton was recognized as Most Improved Student of the Month. At the junior high, Anthony Telford was recognized as Student of the Month and Brayden Osbourne was recognized as Most Improved Student of the Month. These awards are voted on by teachers and staff each month, after teachers have nominated students for the honor.
Softball had their first game of the season on Tuesday afternoon! The Lady Devils faced Vardaman High School at home. While the game did not go ideally, the team showed great teamwork and potential, and they are looking forward to an extremely promising season.
Baseball hosted Myrtle on Tuesday evening. The team fought hard, and beat the Hawks 4-0 in the matchup.
Chilly weather left students talking about the possibility of a snow day, and that wish was granted on Wednesday! Students were able to spend the day relaxing and catching up on sleep. That’s exactly what I did. It was a much needed day to finish school work and have a nice day in.

Kevin Kizer, Ethan Walton, Mallory Tidwell, and Jackson Herrera were selected to attend the Ole Miss Honor Band.
Water Valley High School continued with their Black History Month Celebration. We have focused on famous quotes and notable individuals who have made significant contributions. This week we focused on various HBCUs across the southeast. Research boards were created by our ninth grade students and our history classes took time to visit our gallery of the institutions to learn more about this. Thanks to all involved in making this a success. Some of our very own staff and HBCU alumni had fun dressing in their school spirit apparel and seeing their school represented! A special shoutout to Coach Sayles for all of her hard work in making this a successful event.
Softball played a double header at Winona on Friday evening. Both games were hard fought, but ended in an unfortunate loss for the Lady Devils, with scores being 2 to 15 and 2 to 17 in favor of the Tigers. The team plans to make a big comeback against Hickory Flat.
Baseball also played on Friday evening, traveling up the road to face the Lafayette Commodores. Despite their efforts, the Blue Devils came up short, losing 10 to 6.
We had a big weekend for WVHS extracurriculars. To start, four members of the band were selected to attend the Ole Miss honor band. These band members were Kevin Kizer, Ethan Walton, Mallory Tidwell, and Jackson Herrera. The three seniors also auditioned for the Ole Miss Band Scholarship Program and secured their place in the Pride Of The South for their freshman year of college. This is a big accomplishment and we are so proud of the hard work these students have put in!
Boys’ powerlifting had an awesome weekend as well, with four guys qualifying for the state powerlifting meet. These members are Jacameron Elmore (3rd), Drake Mabary (1st), Miles Buford (1st), and Quinton Cox (2nd). Congratulations!
With big projects, field trips, and busy day to day life all coming up, there will be lots to report on from inside the halls of WVHS!
