It’s been another busy week inside the halls of WVHS! February has now passed, and we are moving into our last months of the school year. Students were heavily focused on benchmark testing last week, gearing up for their last big assignments before spring break! These tests are important for teachers and students alike, helping students prepare for the process of end of year state testing—which is creeping up on us quickly.
Benchmark testing also allows teachers to get an idea of where each student is in their education, and what topics are most valuable to review before May.
Archery had a big week, with two big meets taking place. On Tuesday afternoon, they hosted Hernando High School in the high school gymnasium. They were victorious over the Tigers with a team score of 3,185. The top male archer of the night was Robert Webb with a score of 280, and the top female archer was Lillien White, with a score of 273.
On Thursday night, the team traveled to Lafayette High School. The team scored an overall 3,172, and high fliers of the night were seniors Lillien White and Mallory Tidwell. Lillien had a score of 281, and Mallory had a score of 280.
The Lady Devils Softball team was super busy, having four games this week. They first hosted Hickory Flat at home, coming out victorious in a 17-5 matchup against the Rebels on Monday afternoon.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Houlka to face the Wildcats, and once again came out victorious, winning the game 17-4. For their last game of February, the team traveled to Winona on Friday afternoon. Though they fought hard, the Lady Devils lost 6-24. The team traveled again on Saturday to face the Lake Cormorant Gators. The Devils suffered an unfortunate shut-out, losing the game 0-16.
The varsity baseball team took on two games last week. First, they traveled to Hickory Flat to face off against the Rebels on Tuesday afternoon. The team came out on top, winning the game 20-0. On Saturday, the team hosted South Panola High School at home. The Blue Devils were victorious again, beating the tigers with a final score of 11-8.
The class of 2025 finished up their career fair projects this week. These projects are focused on our job shadowing experience that took place a few weeks ago. Our task was to research and gather more knowledge about the job we shadowed, and assemble a tri-fold to display this information.
These tri-fold boards will be displayed in the cafeteria at the end of this week, and we will host the junior high students in a career fair. They will be able to walk around, ask questions, and explore career options that will interest them. Between the career fair, mock job interviews, and more, the senior class is gearing up to be extremely busy from now until graduation! Yearbook staff has been hard at work this week, as we have finally gotten class pictures and are working on finalizing each grade page! It is a long process, and we still have a way to go, but it is looking to be a great yearbook. Next week is spring break, but there will be lots to write about before then!
