WATER VALLEY – The curtains will soon go up again. Only this time, it’s not just the start of another show, it’s the return of a place that means a lot to this town.
After years of being closed and months of renovation, the Water Valley Civic Auditorium will soon be ready for its big comeback. And let us tell you that it’s had more than just a touch-up. We’re talking about a full transformation: a new roof, working air-conditioning (finally), new windows and floors, fresh paint, brand-new lighting, modern updates, spruced-up seating, and a building that looks so good it deserves its own standing ovation.

New signage for the city’s auditorium, The Civic, was installed Friday. Mayor Tommy Reynolds reports the building will open this summer.
With all these exciting changes, it only felt right to give the place a name that matched its renewed spirit. So say hello to The Civic. Simple. Classic. Familiar. And full of hometown heart. It’s the same auditorium many of us remember. It’s where we’ve packed in for Music Fests, pageants, and band concerts. But now it’s been polished up and given a fresh start with a name that honors both where we’ve been and where we’re going.
One of the most striking additions greets you the moment you walk through the door: a brand-new mural in the lobby, designed and painted by Mississippi muralist Gavin Bird. This mural isn’t just decoration. It’s a love letter to Water Valley. Bright, bold, and full of feeling, the artwork features familiar landmarks and beloved bits of our town that will make folks smile, reminisce, and point out favorite memories.
Mayor Tommy Reynolds summed it up perfectly when he said, “This building has always been more than just brick and mortar. It’s a gathering place. A space where memories are made, talents are shared, and our town comes to life. I’m proud of the investment we’ve made in restoring it, and even prouder of what it represents for the future of Water Valley.”
The Civic isn’t just reopening – it’s stepping back into the spotlight. So go ahead and get excited. Whether you’re taking the stage, snapping photos from the wings, chaperoning a field trip, or just clapping from a row in the back, it’s going to feel like the best seat in town.
