Welcome back to Inside the Blue and White! We are inching into the last week of the school year and counting down the days until summer break! Excitement is building as we wrap up another great year, but things haven’t slowed down just yet—our students, teachers, and staff have been incredibly busy with end-of-year activities.
Juniors taking AP courses spent days in the library this week with the hours-long advanced placement exams. These exams are scored one through five, and students who score above a three can typically use the class as a college credit! It’s a great opportunity for students to get ahead and earn recognition for the rigorous coursework they’ve completed this year.
The yearbook staff has been hard at work behind the scenes, putting in countless hours to make sure this year’s memories are captured perfectly. From designing layouts to gathering photos and writing captions, they’ve been dedicated to creating a book that celebrates all the moments—big and small—that made this school year special. We can’t wait for everyone to see the finished product!
Junior High baseball had tryouts for the 2026 season and the roster was released.
Thursday was a busy busy day for seniors. It was the traditional last walk through the halls of both DES and WVHS before graduation!
Seniors gathered in the high school cafeteria bright and early Thursday morning to board buses bound for the elementary school. We started in the gymnasium with all the fifth and sixth grade students, before making our way through the rest of the school. It’s crazy to think that it feels like we were the ones cheering for the seniors not too long ago. After walking through the elementary school – where many of us started our educational journey – it was time to return to WVHS. The seniors made their way through the junior high wing and then the high school hallways for the last time as students.
The walk ended in the high school gym, where family and friends gathered to celebrate this major milestone.
Following the walk, the Awards Day ceremony began. Students were recognized for their achievements and presented with scholarships, cords, and stoles. This included awards for academic success, community involvement and future plans. The gym buzzed with celebration as students’ names were called, and accomplishments honored. Honor graduates were announced here as well. This includes the following students: Elise Burns, Laine Burns, Reid Burress, Dezmod Campbell, Jade Crenshaw, Liam Ennis, Emma Forehand, Jackson Herrera, Calicia Hutchins, John McMinn, Hayden Schurr, Bree Spearman, Jacob Stacy, Addison Taylor, Mallory Tidwell, Jenna Trusty, Elise Turner, Trynaidee Walton, and Heath Wrenn. These are students who have maintained a 90 or above throughout their high school careers.
Next students had their after graduation plans announced to end the ceremony. Graduation will be held on Friday, May 23rd at 7 p.m. We hope to see everyone there to celebrate the Class of 2025! As we head into the final stretch of the school year, it’s clear that the spirit of hard work, celebration, and tradition is alive and well at WVHS. From academic achievements to athletic milestones and unforgettable senior moments, this week has been filled with memories that will last a lifetime. We’re so proud of our students and staff for finishing strong. Here’s to one last week – and an amazing summer ahead!
