It’s been a great week at Mt Liberty. We had our annual cemetery day and the turnout was strong. We’re very happy everyone came to participate. Many thanks to those that brought food and prepared the fellowship hall. We also have an updated sign at the end of the road and it looks beautiful.
Pat and Opal and Richard and Angie celebrated anniversaries this week. Mila Coffey had a birthday. Many celebrations to them.
Bro. Grant Coffey brought a wonderful message Sunday from Colossians 2:6-7 about being rooted. Rooted means to establish deeply and firmly. The roots are what gives a tree strength and keeps it alive. If humans aren’t rooted in good soil, we will look for something elsewhere. It could be alcohol, drugs, and so on. If you water a tree with salt water for a time, the roots will kill the tree.
The Bible is telling us where our roots should be planted. Our roots should be searching for faith and spiritual growth. If we are rooted in Christ, we will find our identities as Christians. A deep, solid root system makes a difference in our lives. If our roots aren’t deeply rooted on Christ, the first storm will knock us over. If you want a firm foundation when the storms come, plant deeply in all things Jesus. Then, like a healthy tree, you will bear fruit. If you’re not producing fruit, maybe you’re rooted in the wrong thing.
It’s hard to bring that sermon to paper. It was definitely one to be heard but I can’t do it justice. The Spirit was present while Bro Grant was delivering this message. I could see myself trying to grow as a mighty oak with a firm foundation and bearing lots of fruit as long as I keep Jesus in my life. We must plant ourselves in Christ.
