Yalobusha Greenway Alliance board members and volunteers including Bryan Nigh rolled up their sleeves to get the first portion of Yalobusha Greenways ready for Saturday’s grand opening.
WATER VALLEY – The Yalobusha Greenways Alliance invites the community to celebrate National Trails Day with a special hike and picnic, along with the official opening of the Yalobusha Greenway rail trail on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Water Valley.
This free, family-friendly event will take place at the open field on North Court Street and Railroad Avenue, marking a major milestone in local efforts to expand recreational and green space access in the area. Attendees can enjoy music, games, free food, and guided nature hikes throughout the morning.
The celebration will begin at 9 a.m. with a welcome and brief update from Yalobusha Greenways Alliance (YGA) President Ben Ifshin. At 9:30, local bird enthusiast Rebekah Mills-Ifshin will lead a birdwatching walk, followed by a native plant tour at 10:15 with Katelynn Dillard. The event wraps up with lunch and lawn games around 11.
The Yalobusha Greenways Alliance is a local nonprofit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining a beautiful, safe, and accessible pedestrian and recreational trail in Water Valley. Its mission is to transform abandoned rail corridors and undeveloped areas into a vibrant network of public trails and green spaces. Through these efforts, YGA hopes to enhance recreation, foster community connections, and promote sustainable economic growth across Yalobusha County and beyond.
This celebration is presented in partnership with the Water Valley Town & Country Garden Club and Mulberry Lane Resale Shoppe. Everyone is encouraged to come out, enjoy the trail, and be part of this exciting moment for the Water Valley community.
