The Pine Valley school building has been used for a wide range of events including music festivals, weddings, birthday parties, political rallies and the annual reunions.
PINE VALLEY – A long-standing community tradition continues as the Pine Valley School Reunion is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 20, beginning at noon. Everyone is invited to bring a dish and enjoy the potluck meal. The original Pine Valley School building, constructed in 1931 with donated labor and materials from local residents, still stands today and serves as a living piece of history. The preserved country schoolhouse offers a glimpse into a bygone era and is open for the public to tour during the event.
The school was donated to the community and became the Pine Valley Community Center in 1970, 15 years after it consolidated with Jeff Davis School in 1955. Though the building sat unused for a time, the adjacent baseball field remained active with games played against other community teams.
Over the years, the building has hosted a wide range of events—from 4-H Club meetings and gospel singings to weddings, birthday parties, auctions, political rallies and, of course, the annual reunions.
Organizers extend a special invitation to all past and present residents of the community, their relatives, and anyone interested in the area’s history. Visitors are encouraged to bring a favorite dish, reconnect with neighbors, and enjoy an afternoon of fellowship and memories.
The Pine Valley school building is one of four Mississippi Landmarks in Yalobusha County. The Mississippi Landmark designation is the highest form of recognition bestowed on properties in the State of Mississippi, and designated properties are protected from changes that may alter the property’s historic character.
Other Mississippi Landmarks in the county are the courthouse in Water Valley and the courthouse in Coffeeville, and the old jail on Blackmur Drive in Water Valley.
