Hello again, and welcome back to another week of Inside the Blue and White! What a beautiful week it has been, and I’m so glad you’re back reading and enjoying this column! Once again, it was a busy week for golf and volleyball!
The golf boys played two tournaments last week. Tuesday they went to Okolona Country Club. As a team they ended the round with a collective score of 184, trailing only nine strokes from first place. Allen Paysinger led the way with a 43 and Bowen West was close behind with a 44 on the day.
On Thursday they traveled to Mallard Pointe Golf Club in Sardis. The boys shot a combined score of 179, trailing South Panola by nine strokes yet again. No. 1 seed Allen Paysinger was in front shooting a 40 and Bowen West right behind with a 41 to end their round. They will play Grenada at home at the YCC! With these tough conditions and their perseverance through it, the boys expect a very strong season during their remaining tournaments in the later months.
Volleyball took a hard-fought win against Winona. We lost the first two sets, but it was very close. We wanted this win, so we pushed and had a strong comeback, winning the last three sets. It was a very heated, tough game, but we came up and played our best. We played Leflore County at home, winning another game last week!
The parents and Beta Club members have been helping us out by running the concession stand for us! We also had a tournament at our place, hosting South Panola and Potts Camp. The first game was against South Panola, and we won. Then we played against Potts Camp and lost. Next on the schedule is a trip to Houlka on Tuesday (Aug. 26) and we play again on Thursday. Show up and show out for our Lady Devil volleyball team—it will be so greatly appreciated.

Homecoming girls are getting ready! Nominations and voting started this week and things are getting into place for the big night on September 26. Girls are putting up their posters and handing out flyers, trying their best to get people’s attention and votes. The homecoming theme is “Forever True & Blue.” I wish everyone the best of luck!
Football is working hard and getting ready for their season starting Friday! Meet the Blue Devils was last Friday, introducing the Devil Dolls, cheerleaders, band, golf, volleyball, junior high and high school football teams. The junior team scrimmaged in between, then the high school had their scrimmage after Meet the Devils. The scrimmage was Blue vs. Gray, and the Blue took the win.
“I am looking forward to watching the progression of our guys that have been in our program for the last two years. I think they have made huge improvements in the weight room in particular. Can’t wait to see it all come together on Friday nights!” said Clint Faust about the upcoming football season.
Beta Club is kicking off their year with an induction ceremony. Members received pins and certificates for outstanding character and achievement!
Student Council has a lot of big things coming our way! The senior class president is Lailah Harris.
“As far as plans for this year, we are discussing various community service events as well as school events. The STU-CO president is responsible for coordinating all student council activities and is typically in charge of running student council meetings. The president has an active role in the school, representing the student body to the school’s administration. The president must also represent the student council to both the administration and to the other students,” stated Calandra Porter.
The new Student Council officers are:
7th–12th Grade Class Representatives – Kanaudia Smith, Sophia Bray, Jamaria Morgan, Anterion Johnson, Natalie Hernandez, Brooklyn Clark, Zamiayah Kuykendall, and Kenley Pullen
President – Lailah Harris
Vice President – Amari Gooch
Treasurer – Mariah Wilson
Secretary – Joniyah Benson
And that wraps it up for this week. A short but sweet week, and I hope next week brings more activities. Football kickoff is Friday, so come out and support your Blue Devils! Thank you so much for reading this week’s column! I hope you had a great weekend—see y’all next week!

Senior homecoming nominees are (from left) Alexia Horton, Jelicia Mayes, Megan Willingham, Jayla Jones, Amari Gooch, Kristaney Reed and (not pictured) Ryley Hill and Joni Benson. The girls are pictured at Friday’s Meet the Blue Devils at Bobby Clark Field.
