Mt. Liberty News
By Melissa Brooks
I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. We had a good weekend. Kylan turned five last week, so we had his birthday party. He had a wonderful time. A lot of people showed up, and it was great to see the kids playing and having a good time.
Sunday morning we had Communion at Mt. Liberty Church. I love taking Communion. It’s a time when you really have to reflect on yourself, and that was what the sermon was about. Bro. Grant Coffey read 1 Corinthians 11:26-29.
Before taking communion, we are to prepare ourselves. We are to examine our spiritual state. Our hearts are to be pure and free from anger and hate. We are to ask for forgiveness. Communion isn’t something to be done casually. It’s important to remember what Jesus did for us. There are consequences for not preparing for Communion: “For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body” (v. 29). Damnation is defined here as judgment.
By not examining ourselves, we bring judgment on ourselves. We have to be worthy of taking Communion. This is a time of unity in the church. There should be no division. Taking Communion unworthily is a direct disregard of Christ’s sacrifice. Communion is a physical act of spiritual unity with Christ.
We had our monthly business meeting and then music night Sunday night. We had a wonderful time. Kylan wanted to get up and sing Jesus Loves Me. I was so very proud of him. Children have such a pure heart, and we love to encourage them.
If you’re looking for a home church, we invite you to join us. Services start at 11.
