Welcome back to another exciting week at Water Valley High School! This edition brings you all the highlights from a busy and eventful week for both our sports teams and our seniors!
The seniors kicked off their week with a tour of Mississippi Valley State University, where we explored student life, checked out the basketball team, and visited the weight room. On Thursday, it was Application Day! Everyone started by applying to Northwest, and afterward, students submitted applications to a variety of other schools—including Itawamba Community College, Ole Miss, LSU, and even Texas A&M.
Our volleyball team had a packed week of competition, starting with a tough matchup on Tuesday against East Union. Playing on the road is never easy, and this game was no exception. East Union currently holds the number one spot in the district, and they showed us why. Even though we came up short, our players fought hard, learned from the challenge, and showed incredible teamwork and determination throughout the match.

Kristaney Reed waits for the ball during volleyball action last week. The Lady Devils volleyball team is 10 – 6 with two matches remaining in the regular season.
On Thursday, the Lady Devils came back with renewed energy and focus, taking on Strayhorn. This time, we dominated the court and secured a big win, proving just how strong and resilient our team really is. We have a 10–5 overall record and now sit proudly in second place in the district standings—a huge accomplishment!
This week will bring even more excitement. We played a hard-fought game against Winona Monday night and came up short, 3 -1. We’ll play Myrtle Tuesday night. And for our final game, we’ll get another shot at East Union, this time on our home court next Tuesday night.
The golf boys hit the course this past Tuesday at Dogwoods Golf Course in Grenada, where they completed a challenging 18-hole round. The team put up a strong fight, finishing just behind the first-place Grenada squad. Leading the way for our team was Allen Paysinger with an impressive score of 80, followed by Levi Bryant with a 90 and Shane French with a 91. Their consistency helped keep the team within striking distance of the top spot. Although the next tournament date has not yet been set, the boys are staying dedicated both on and off the course. “We have been getting lots of shots in on the range recently and trying to make sure everyone can get the ball straight down the fairway every time,” said Levi Bryant.
Stay tuned for updates, as the team is expected to return to Dogwoods soon for another competitive round.
The football game that was originally scheduled Friday had to be moved to Thursday. The boys gave it their all on the field, playing with determination, but unfortunately came up short with a final score of 52–28. Even though the outcome wasn’t in our favor, we are proud of their effort and the way they represented our school.
Looking ahead, this week is an exciting one—it’s Homecoming Week! Each day will have a fun theme for students to dress up and show their school spirit. The week will wrap up with our big homecoming game against Vardaman, where we’ll also crown our new homecoming queen. We hope to see everyone in the stands, cheering loud and proud, as we celebrate this special tradition together!
And that’s a wrap for this week’s column! Thank you so much for taking the time to read and stay caught up with all the exciting things happening at Water Valley High School. From athletics to academics, our students are working hard and making us proud each and every week. Be sure to check back next time for more highlights and updates.
