Chamber Report
By Jessie Gurner
There’s something about October in Water Valley that just feels right. The air turns cool at night, the leaves start to whisper, and the town takes on that golden, easy pace that makes you want to linger a little longer on Main Street. Porch pumpkins seem to multiply overnight, and the smell of cinnamon candles and wood smoke somehow manage to blend together in the most perfect small-town way.
October is our sweet spot, the pause between the rush of summer and the excitement of the holidays. It’s the time to catch your breath, enjoy a few football weekends, and maybe sneak in one more quiet Saturday before things really start hopping.
At the Chamber, we’re using this month to get ready for what’s next, because November and December are going to be something special. We’re putting the finishing touches on plans for our annual Holiday Open House, coming up on Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 25 local businesses will open their doors with holiday treats, door prizes, and warm hometown smiles. Be sure to register when you make a purchase—one lucky shopper will win the $500 Chamber grand prize gift certificate, good for holiday shopping at any Chamber-member business.
And this year, there’s a special surprise event planned to go right along with it, something new that we think you’re going to love. Keep an eye on the Chamber’s Facebook page and in the North Mississippi Herald for the big reveal and more details.
After that, we roll straight into the sparkle of Christmas in the Valley, set for Friday, December 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. Main Street will twinkle with lights, music will fill the air, and families will wander from shop to shop, soaking in that unmistakable holiday spirit.
The following evening, Saturday, December 6, the Christmas Tour of Homes will open its doors from 4 to 7 p.m., inviting everyone to step inside some of Water Valley’s most beautiful homes, all decked out for the season. More details about that are coming soon, too.
And of course, it wouldn’t be December without our beloved Christmas Parade, happening on Friday, December 12. The floats, the lights, the music, the laughter—it’s one of those nights that feels like a Hallmark movie come to life, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
As the temperatures drop and the first hints of the holidays start to peek around the corner, take a moment to enjoy this calm before the cheer. Wander through town, wave at a neighbor, and treat yourself to something delicious from one of our local eateries.
Here in Water Valley, October isn’t just another month. It’s a reminder of how lucky we are to live in a place that knows how to celebrate every season.
