Winners of the Lions Club Peace Poster Contest (from left) are Nikea Kimble (third place), Liarra Brown (second place), Adrian Myers (first place) and Lynleigh St. Romain (honorable mention) in the Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest sponsored locally. Also pictured are Terrie Thomas Johnson, Lions Club publicity chairman; Peace Poster chairman Barron Caulfield; and Club President Mike Edwards.
Artwork from local artists is advancing to the state level thanks to the annual competition sponsored by the Water Valley Lions Club. The contest encourages students to express their vision of peace through art and has been held worldwide for more than three decades.
This year’s theme “Together as One” invites students to imagine what can happen when diverse groups unite around a common goal. Their work will now be entered in the next round of competition at the District 30-M level.
Club officials say the contest not only celebrates artistic talent, but also builds community awareness and personal growth among participants. According to contest materials, the initiative gives “young people the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity.”
