Inside The Blue And White

Hello, and welcome back to another exciting week Inside the Blue and White! I’m here once again to bring you the latest updates from around the halls and from our hardworking high school students.

This past Friday, our Blue Devils took on Kemper County in the second round of the playoffs. It was a night packed with energy, determination, and pride. The team fought hard from kickoff to the final whistle, giving everything they had on the field. Despite their effort, the Devils ultimately came up short, falling 38–14 and bringing their season to an end.

Emotions were high as the seniors took off their pads for the last time—some with tears, some with smiles, and all with years’ worth of memories from representing their school with heart. Teammates, coaches, students, and families stood together afterward, showing support and appreciation for a season defined by commitment and resilience. Even though the playoff run ended sooner than everyone hoped, the Blue Devils’ grit never went unnoticed, and their hard work made the school and community proud.

On a brighter note, basketball season is officially underway! This Saturday, both the boys’ and girls’ teams hit the court against Holly Springs, kicking off the year with plenty of energy and school spirit.

The junior varsity girls started strong, dominating their game with an impressive 30–4 win. Their teamwork and hustle set the tone for what looks to be a promising season. The high school girls followed with a hard-fought matchup, staying competitive throughout before falling 46–38. The boys wrapped up the day with an intense contest of their own. They battled hard but came up short, 57–49. Still, both teams showed a lot of potential, and fans are excited to see how they grow in the weeks ahead.

Sophomores, along with Dr. Person, Mr. Byrd, Mr. Williams, Ms. Chandler, and Mrs. Harris, recently traveled to Jackson for an enriching day of learning at both the Museum of Mississippi History and the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. Thanks to the generous support of the Winter Education Endowment, all students were able to enjoy the full experience—admission, lunch, and transportation were covered. The group traveled comfortably aboard Cline Tours buses, setting the tone for a smooth and enjoyable trip.

This visit was only the beginning. Sophomores will return to the Civil Rights Museum in February to complete the remainder of the tour, gaining an even deeper understanding of the stories, struggles, and triumphs that shaped our state and nation.

And that wraps up this week’s edition of Inside the Blue and White! Thank you for taking the time to read and stay connected with everything happening around our school. Your support means so much to everyone who works hard to bring these updates together each week. Be sure to check back next week for more stories, celebrations, and behind-the-scenes happenings at WVHS!
