Happy Thanksgiving from our home to yours. I pray you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day with lots of love and lots of food flowing on your table. Don’t forget before you eat to at least thank God for one thing that you have been blessed with through the past year.
Baby, it’s cold outside. I had to get out my fuzzy housecoat and put an extra blanket on our bed. If it gets too cold, I’ll heat up my two cast-iron irons and wrap them in newspaper and put them at the foot of the bed to keep my feet warm, like my daddy used to do when I was a little girl.
Oh my, what wonderful memories.
Sheryn Goode’s daughter, Dana Huffman, and Linda Shelton came down from Tennessee for the day. They put Christmas flowers out at the cemetery. Sheryn wants to give a huge thank-you to Tim Sullivan for helping them.
Lila Myrick said she wanted to tell me that Joey McClanahan visited his dad, Bobby Joe, this weekend and got his first deer. He was excited.
Lila’s other brother, Freddie Wayne McClanahan, is home after being in the hospital in Oxford.
He’s doing better now.
Deborah and Tommy McCool had an early Thanksgiving dinner with Patrick and their daughter, Angela Dukes, Saturday night. Allison Dukes and Cameron came from Alabama and spent the night. “We all ate too much,” said Deborah. Grandson PJ Dukes was there too.
Deborah is so excited that their first great-grandbaby is going to be a girl. Lilly Rose is what they are planning on calling her.
“Lilly was my grandmother’s name,” said Deborah. They worked in the yard Sunday afternoon and put more Christmas decorations out. Almost finished.
Well, since you and Tommy are almost finished in your yard, you can come down the road and help decorate ours.
Diane Dukes is all smiles about having two great-granddaughters on the way. One is due in March and the other in May — Sam and Anna Pullen’s first in March, and Cameron and Allison’s in May.
Junior Dukes, Diane’s grandson, came by and said, “You’re not doing anything, so let’s ride to Charleston and get something to eat.” They went to Bumpers. Diane enjoyed just talking and looking at the trees changing colors.
“My friends,” says Martha Box, “I love running into you, sweet friends. Brings up so many memories.” Martha ran into so many friends from the medical department that she loved working with.
“In my clock-in days I was blessed with many great nurses, doctors, assistants, and all the staff it took to keep the hospitals thriving. In all my years, I only worked with a couple that brought a ‘need to straighten them out!’” Martha added.
Martha said this fast-paced week is over as the holiday approaches. She took a lunch break at the lake several times, just enjoying the falling leaves and watching the hungry birds as they fished for lunch.
Martha enjoyed attending a wonderful service at Pine Grove Baptist Church Sunday.
“A great thank-you-Lord service after a wow choir service. I tell you, when the spirit-filled singers join together, it lifts us up! Bro. Scarborough, thank you for such a lifting message. It will keep me working on me!” Martha said.
“Now okay you young’uns, it’s Thanksgiving time. Get busy cooking and let’s eat after we say our thank-yous! My house Thursday at 3:30 p.m.”
Milton Harper is back at Tallahatchie General Hospital and will start therapy again Monday morning.
Your writer’s daughter, Donna, came Sunday and worked in my shed and got out my Christmas tree and some other decorations. By that time it was too late to do any decorating, so I will wait like I usually do and do it the day after Thanksgiving.
Happy birthday to Marissa Jackson and Howard Jackson on the 26th; Donna Garripoli, Tommy Griffis, and Billy Chambers share a birthday on the 27th; Nathan Hartley, Kathy Hartley, Mason Tillman, and Tami Dantzler Lott share a birthday on the 28th. I pray you all have a blessed birthday!
