WATER VALLEY — The Delta Regional Authority announced Tuesday nearly $17 million in funding for 11 infrastructure and flood control projects across the region, including a $1 million award to the Water Valley Electric Commission.
The funding, provided through DRA’s Community Infrastructure Fund, supports projects addressing basic public infrastructure, transportation and flood control needs across the lower Mississippi Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions.
The Water Valley Electric Commission will receive $1 million for electrical system improvements. The funds awarded to the Water Valley Electric Commission are earmarked for Main Street power upgrades, including replacing antiquated, hazardous and energy-inefficient copper power lines in the Main Street area. The project is designed to modernize and strengthen the city’s power infrastructure and provide more reliable and uninterrupted service.
Dr. Corey Wiggins, DRA federal co-chairman, said the Community Infrastructure Fund allows the agency to invest directly in public infrastructure that supports economic growth.
“As a result of this investment, thousands of families will have improved access to infrastructure, helping to enhance their quality of life and increase economic opportunities in their communities,” Wiggins aid.
