Chamber Report
By Jessie Gurner
The Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting resumes for the position of Office Manager. On paper, that may sound like a regular job announcement. But we all know it means a little more than that.
The Chamber office is one of those places where the work may look simple from the outside, but there is a lot happening behind the scenes. There are calls to answer, records to keep, memberships to manage, reports to prepare, meetings to help organize, and events that do not come together by accident. Somewhere between the paperwork, the phone calls, and the calendar reminders, the Chamber office helps keep a lot of good things connected.
But this position is not just about files and forms.
The person in this role often becomes a familiar voice and a friendly face for Water Valley. The Chamber office is a first stop for new businesses, longtime members, visitors, volunteers, and folks who simply have a question and are not sure where to begin. Some people call about membership. Some ask about events. Some need help finding a local business. Some walk in with an idea and leave with a little encouragement.
That matters in Water Valley, where business is rarely just business. It is neighbors, families, friendships, and the people who keep showing up for one another.
The Office Manager helps support the Chamber’s members and board, but the work reaches into the wider community, too. It touches the Watermelon Carnival, Chamber gatherings, local promotions, community traditions, visitor information, and the everyday connections that help Water Valley feel like Water Valley.
It is the kind of work that is not always noticed in the moment. But when it is done with care, people feel it.
Water Valley has always been built on people who are willing to show up, pay attention, lend a hand, and care about the details. The Chamber is looking for someone organized, dependable, and comfortable with the practical side of office work. But we are also looking for someone who understands that a kind answer, a helpful attitude, and a little hometown pride can make a difference.
This is a hands-on job. Some days may be full of paperwork. Some days may involve event planning. Some days may mean answering questions from a visitor who wandered in looking for directions, a recommendation for a place to eat lunch, or a reason to come back. And some days may bring all of that before noon.
The Chamber is looking for someone who can help support the work of our businesses, our board, and our community with steadiness, professionalism, and care. Someone who understands that in a small town, the little things are rarely little.
Because this office has always been more than a desk and a phone. It is one of the places where Water Valley’s business life and community life meet.
Resumes may be emailed to wvchamber@bellsouth.net or mailed to: Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 726, Water Valley, MS 38965.
