Tillatoba News
By Patcie Deck
I hope all you ladies had a wonderful Mother’s Day. The weather was perfect.
Your writer and David Deck’s visitors during the week and over the weekend were Susan Bell of Caledonia, A.W. Taylor and Gale Taylor, Trudy Simmons, Brad, Frankie and Bradley Holliday, Donna Garripoli, Jason Beavers and our grandson, Junior Dukes. Y’all come back now, you hear!
Sunday afternoon David and I visited with great-grands Haven, Rose and Waylon Jr. I took them some of my birthday cake and after we left there, we went across the road and visited with Diane Dukes and daughter Terri Pullen.
The 34th Annual Tillatoba Bass Tournament was a great success this year, with more than 150 people in attendance for a day filled with fishing, food, fellowship and family fun. Fishermen from across the area gathered to compete and continue the tradition that has become a favorite community event each year.
This year’s winners were:
Bass Winners
1st Place – Brad Boyette
2nd Place – Brandon Harrison
3rd Place – Nathan Moore
4th Place – Scott Moss
5th Place – Corey Anderson
Crappie Winner
1st Place – George Kendall Jr.
Largest Stringer Winner
1st Place – Nathan Moore
They appreciate everyone who came out and helped make the 34th annual tournament another memorable year, and look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Kristie Hartley put everything together this year and did a great job.
Freda Weir said, “Hope your birthday was a great one Auntie Pat!”
“Nothing going on here but doing therapy on my shoulder two days a week,” Freda added.
Friday, Sheryn Goode’s daughter Sonja Mercer, granddaughter Alli Hamilton and neighborhood friend Sean Stevens came to visit. It was the first time Sheryn had seen Sean in 22 years. They had a good time talking and remembering the good old days when the children were growing up.
Sunday, Sheryn’s daughter Dana Huffman, her husband Lee and sons Devon and Fischer came to visit. The guys went fishing, but had no luck. Dana and Sheryn spent the afternoon talking and enjoying one another’s company.
“In all, I had a good Mother’s Day,” said Sheryn.
Martha Box is still wondering how we got here again.
“I think time is spinning like a whirlwind,” Martha said. “No real exciting news. Piddling is the southern word describing my actions this week. Did have a great time Friday evening at Willow Springs Assembly of God as the Overcomers Choir sang with such spirit. Saturday the kids celebrated me, their mother. Great time and great food. Also celebrated Josh’s 21st and Addie’s 15th birthday.”
Faye Hartley’s children, Nathan and Kristie, cooked a delicious Mother’s Day lunch for her.
Deborah McCool cooked at her house for Mother’s Day. Daughter Kimberly and husband Jason Beavers, granddaughters Caitlyn and Hannah, and Dallas Boyette came to eat.
Her daughter Angela is in Alabama with her daughter Allison, who went into labor early Sunday morning. She now has a beautiful great-granddaughter, Lily Rose, who weighed 7 pounds, 7 ounces. Little Lily Rose was born Sunday afternoon, May 10, 2026. What a wonderful Mother’s Day gift.
My friend Susan Bell came Thursday night to celebrate my 85th birthday Friday. We attended the funeral of Keith Beardain, your writer’s nephew, on Saturday before she returned to Caledonia.
Happy birthday to Teresa Jackson and JoJo McClanahan, who celebrate May 15; Daisy Walton Isabell and Jared Sturtevant on May 16; Faith Tillman on May 17; Sherry Thornburg on May 18; and Liz McKinney and Melinda Box on May 20. I pray you all have a great day celebrating your special day.
