Hello and welcome back to another week of Inside the Blue and White! As the school year begins to wind down, things around campus are finally starting to slow down a little, and everyone is counting down the days until summer. The seniors are especially getting impatient as graduation gets closer and closer.
With all the excitement building, senior pranks have also started getting crazier by the day, making school even more entertaining and unforgettable. Students and teachers alike are trying to make the most of these final weeks together.
This week was also Teacher Appreciation Week, and our teachers were shown plenty of love for all the hard work they have put in throughout the year. Several local businesses and community members helped make the week extra special by providing breakfast, lunch, snacks and treats for the staff.
Some of those who contributed included the Water Valley Police Department, BankFirst, BTC and Brandon Presley. Their generosity meant so much to the teachers and staff members.
Davidson Elementary also did something creative and fun for teachers by setting up a “Bloom Bar.” Teachers were able to pick out flowers and create bouquets to take home. It was a thoughtful idea and a great way to brighten everyone’s week.

The girls’ 4×200 relay team – Joniyah Benson, Jamaria Morgan, Akera White and Janiayah Gooch – won third in state.
Football also held its spring game this week against Calhoun, and it was a close game from start to finish. The final score was 16-14, with Calhoun pulling ahead by just two points. Even though the Blue Devils came up a little short, the team played hard and showed a lot of potential for the upcoming season. Spring games are all about learning, improving and preparing for the fall, and the team definitely gave fans something to be excited about. The players have been putting in a lot of hard work, and it is already starting to show on the field. If they continue improving and working together, this could be an exciting season for Blue Devil football.
The Lady Devil track team competed in Pearl at the State Championship meet and turned in an outstanding performance against some of the best competition in the state. Akera White had a tremendous day, becoming state champion in the 200-meter dash and state runner-up in the 100-meter dash.
The girls’ 4×200 relay team also performed well, bringing home a third-place finish. Team members included Joniyah Benson, Jamaria Morgan, Akera White and Janiayah Gooch.
Congratulations to all of these talented athletes for representing the Lady Devils so well and finishing the season strong. The team is coached by Bernadette Sayles and Suzette Jones, who have done an incredible job leading and supporting these athletes throughout the season.
Well, that’s about it for this week! We have only two more weeks of school left and just two more weeks left for me to write this column. It has been bittersweet, and I would not trade this opportunity for anything. Thank you for reading, and I hope you come back for the final two weeks!
