Summertime has shown up with an attitude, y’all! I’m not going to complain though because this is my favorite time of year. I hope you all have had a wonderful week. We’ve slowed down a little bit. Now we’re planning for Vacation Bible School. Announcements on that will come when it gets closer to time.
Bro. Grant Coffey delivered a great message Sunday morning from John 16:5-7. Jesus is telling the disciples that he is returning to God. He knows they’re sad and grieving. But he tells them it is for their good that he leaves. Why is it good for him to leave? If we can’t have Jesus in person, the Holy Spirit is the ultimate upgrade. Jesus, the man, was limited by a physical body. If Jesus had stayed, Christianity would have been a localized ministry. Jesus traded his physical presence for his spiritual presence that lives in us all.
The Holy Spirit is not contained by geographical borders. Because Jesus says goodbye, we don’t have to go to Israel or a Jewish temple to be closer to God. We have access to God through the Holy Spirit. God’s spirit is with us always because Jesus said goodbye, and it was a great goodbye.
This was an amazing sermon. It really put things into perspective for me personally. We also took communion on Sunday morning. It was a wonderful, Spirit-filled day. Sunday night was music night. If you’re looking for a home church, we invite you to join us. Services start at 11.
