Cossar State Park Reopens After Storm Cleanup
OAKLAND – George P. Cossar State Park has reopened to visitors following months of cleanup work related to damage caused by Winter Storm Fern earlier this year.
The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks announced that reservations reopened June 5, with visitors able to begin using camping, lodging and day-use facilities beginning June 11. Jones Creek Campground sites 48-92 remain closed while additional cleanup continues.
The reopening follows months of storm debris removal work at the park after the Yalobusha County Board of Supervisors approved an extension of its contract with TFR Enterprises to remove debris left by Winter Storm Fern. The cleanup project carried a cost of $354,561.13 and was completed as part of the county’s broader storm recovery effort.
State officials said they look forward to welcoming visitors back to the park in time for summer activities and Fourth of July celebrations planned as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary observance.
