Sons Of Confederate Veterans
WATER VALLEY — Mary Lucia Holloway of Water Valley was recently presented the Friends of the SCV award by the Water Valley Rifle Guards Camp No. 2360, Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Holloway is a descendant of L.Q.C. Lamar, who served the Confederacy during the Civil War as a colonel and diplomat. The Friends of the SCV recognition is presented to individuals who support Southern heritage and Confederate history but are not eligible for membership in the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The public is invited to the camp’s next meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 18, beginning at 6 p.m. at American Legion Post 37, 100 Calhoun St., Water Valley.
Featured speaker Danny Toma, a U.S. diplomat and author, will present “Palmito Ranch: Last Battle of the War Between the States.”

Youth ATV Safety Courses
COFFEEVILLE – Young ATV riders from Yalobusha, Grenada and surrounding counties will have an opportunity to learn safe riding skills during a Multi-County 4-H ATV Safety Course on Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Yalobusha County Extension Office, located at 18025 Highway 7 in Coffeeville.
The hands-on course, presented by the Mississippi State University Extension Service, is open to youth ages 10-18. Two class sessions will be offered to accommodate participants. The first begins at 9 a.m., and the second starts at 12:30 p.m. Registration will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and you are not considered registered until the $10 payment is made.
The registration deadline is Wednesday, Aug. 12. Lunch will be provided for those attending. The Yalobusha County Farm Bureau and Grenada County Farm Bureau are sponsoring snacks and lunches for the event. Valley City Lodge
WATER VALLEY — Valley City Lodge No. 402 F&AM will hold its next stated communication Thursday, Aug. 6, at the lodge hall on Champion Circle. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m., and members are encouraged to attend and support the local lodge.
Valley City Lodge regularly holds stated communications to conduct lodge business and provide fellowship among its members. All members are reminded of the meeting time and encouraged to participate.
Fundraiser Benefit
PARIS — Friends and family are coming together Saturday to help support Tut Mills during a benefit fundraiser at Paris Baptist Church.
Organizer Keith Black said Mills recently suffered a stroke and is continuing to battle complications as he recovers. Proceeds from the fundraiser will help support Mills and his family during that recovery.
The event will be held at the church’s Activity Building, 26 County Road 430, Paris, with food service beginning at 4:30 p.m.
Barbecue plates will be available for $15 each or four for $50.
Live music by Jessica Horton is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m., followed by a live auction at 6 p.m. The auction will feature a variety of donated items to benefit Mills and is being hosted by the Friends of Tut. Tickets are available by calling or texting 662-816-2998 or 662-816-4094.
Yalobusha Greenways
WATER VALLEY – The Yalobusha Greenways Alliance invites community members to attend its next public meeting on Thursday, August 6, at 5:30 p.m. at the Civic in Water Valley.
YGA will share updates on current projects, discuss plans for future trail and greenway initiatives, and provide opportunities for community members to learn more about ongoing efforts to enhance outdoor recreation and connectivity throughout Yalobusha County.
Residents, trail users, landowners, and anyone interested in supporting and expanding local greenways are encouraged to attend. The meeting is free and open to the public.
