Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week of Inside the Blue and White! I hope you all had a great week here at Water Valley High School. It’s hard to believe we’re already a few weeks into the new school year. The mornings are starting to cool off just a little, the school year is officially rolling, and the Blue Devils have been giving us plenty to cheer about.
Starting off on the field, because there’s nothing like football season in a small town. Our football team hit the field this week for a scrimmage against West Tallahatchie, walking away with a 2-0 victory. Even though it’s early on in the season, and scrimmages don’t count for much in the record books, they give us a glimpse of what the team can do together. The players looked sharp, the defense held up, and the whole town was feeling the energy.

What a week it was for Blue Devil spirit. On Friday, Aug. 21, we held “Meet the Blue Devils.” The stands were packed for the introduction of the golf, volleyball, football and band squads. The atmosphere was electric as families and friends showed support for all student-athletes.
Moments like these mark the official start of the season, reminding us how much fun our community is! If you missed it, make sure you don’t miss the games because these teams are worth showing up for!
Over on the court, our Lady Devil volleyball team added another big win to its season, taking down South Panola in a hard-fought match. It wasn’t easy, but the Lady Devils stayed composed, fought hard and came out with a 3-2 win! They will play again Monday, Aug. 31, at Mark Palmer High School.
Now let’s talk about what’s coming up, because there’s a lot on the calendar. Friday, Aug. 28, is a big day. First off, it’s picture day for all seventh- through 11th-graders, and for seniors who missed their portraits, this is your chance to make them up. So put on your best smile and your favorite outfit and make sure you are present for picture day! That same day, later in the evening at 7 p.m., our football team plays at home against Independence. Come out, fill the stands and give our Blue Devils their home-field advantage!
To my fellow seniors, mark your calendars for Sept. 1, which is College Application Day. Make sure you have your deadlines straight, drafts ready and questions lined up. This is the beginning of our next chapter, and it’s exciting to see it getting underway.
For now, the season is just getting started and there is so much to look forward to. Between games, picture day smiles and college prep on the horizon, being a Blue Devil is a pretty good place to be. That’s all for this week. Have a wonderful week, and I’ll be back here next week with more from Inside the Blue and White.
