Mt. Liberty News
By Angela Bratton
I pray everyone had a good week and you found yourself in the Lord’s favor.
The message Bro. Grant Coffey brought us this week was titled “The Same Ol’ Routine.” Our Bible verse of focus was Joshua 6:1-5. God tells Joshua that He has given Jericho into their hands. Then He gives them instructions on how to breach the walls of the city. Walls so wide they could race chariots atop them. The children of Israel are to march around the city once a day for six days. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times. Seven priests will blow seven horns and the children of Israel are to shout until the walls fall to their feet.
The first day they marched around the city and nothing happened. Got up the next day and did it again. For six days they did as God commanded and nothing changed. How boring? But the miracle came on the seventh day. God is often working through us in the routine. He’s working in us as we obey His command.
Often when we greet someone, we ask them what they’ve been up to. Sometimes the reply is “Same old, same old.” We tend to get into routines. Get up at the same time, dress the same way, watch the same shows, etc. We also develop routines in our spiritual life. Don’t let the routine become a habit and then become a rut. Let God work in you and through you in your routines. Thank God your seventh day is coming.
Our special music this week was “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” sung by Bro. Grant with Opal and myself singing backup and Leigh playing accompaniment on the bass. This song was requested by Ms. Anne. She said the song was just on her heart all week.
Tuesday night’s junior high football game was a smashing success. Brycen had four tackles and Water Valley won the game. He’s going to be a baller.
Cody Person celebrated his birthday this week, August 30. The congregation normally sings the Happy Birthday song to our birthday boys/girls, but Cody is currently out of town.
My son Noah made it home last week. We are hoping for a couple of weeks to spend time together before he needs to head back out on the road. We hope to see him back at church soon.
Emily Brooks had a great first week at Ole Miss. She’s loving living in her own space and is currently taking 16 hours. She is enjoying experiencing college for the first time and is excited to be starting this new chapter.
My dad, William “Bill” Sikma, had surgery for a macular hole in his left eye last week. Surgery went well and he just needs to rest and remain still for a week to recover. Please remember him in your prayers.
Ms. Flora Mills is still recovering from a black eye due to a fall. But, bless her heart, she is still coming to church. She’s even driving herself. Prayers for a speedy recovery.
If you are looking for a church to call home, please come to Mount Liberty. We welcome everyone to come and worship with us. We’re not just a church, we’re family.
