Hello everyone, and welcome back to another week inside the Blue and White! It was a busy Labor Day weekend, but honestly, I think we all needed the break. Between the games, the practices and the energy of getting the school year going, those extra days off were a gift. I hope everyone got some much-needed rest because last week was packed. Let me catch you up on everything that’s been happening.
The Lady Devil volleyball team kicked things off in a big way on Thursday, picking up its first district win of the season against Strayhorn. Not only did they walk away with the win, but they did it in straight sets. Those are definitely the kinds of statements we want to be making in district play! The junior varsity team followed right behind them, taking its match 2-0 as well. It was a great night all around for Lady Devil volleyball, and it sets the tone for everything ahead.
On Friday night, the high school football team took care of South Pontotoc with a final score of 47-3. It was just one of those nights where everything clicked for the team. The Blue Devils came out swinging and never let up, building a 27-3 lead before halftime. The defense held its ground all night, keeping the Cougars to just three points. After a tough week one, this game proved that the team is ready.
Before the game Friday, the high school football team and cheerleaders did their walkthrough at Davidson Elementary School, and I can only imagine how much the little ones loved seeing the Devils and cheer team up close. Those moments matter. The younger kids get to see what it means to be a Blue Devil, and it plants that school pride early. It’s a special thing to watch, and I love that our teams take the time to do it.
Off the field, we have some recognition to celebrate. On Sept. 5, the 2025-26 health science students who earned their CNA licenses and passed their boards back in June were honored for their outstanding accomplishments. Passing a state board is no small thing, and to have five students from WVHS ready to go into the health care field is a big deal. It takes tons of work, studying and dedication, and those students earned every bit of recognition.
And of course, we can’t talk about this week without mentioning homecoming. The dress-up days for homecoming week were officially announced, so y’all need to get your outfits ready and planned out! There’s nothing quite like homecoming week — the themes, the costumes, the school spirit. The whole energy of the hallways just changes. So start digging through your closets, coordinate with your friends and get ready to show out. I don’t know about y’all, but I’m already planning mine.
Well, that’s another week in the books here in the Valley. From a first district win on the volleyball court to a big 47-3 home victory on the field, from honoring our health science students to getting those homecoming outfits planned out, there was never a dull moment. Seeing our team and cheerleaders at Davidson Elementary on Friday was another reminder that it’s about more than just games and grades. It’s school pride, community and the moments we share.
