WATER VALLEY – Water Valley football coach Clint Faust hopes a new addition to this year’s homecoming game could become a Blue Devil tradition.
The school will offer reserved tailgating spaces for the Friday, Oct. 2, homecoming game against Bruce, giving fans a chance to bring out the food, gather with friends and watch the game from outside Bobby Clark Field.
Faust said the layout overlooking the field is perfect for tailgating as fans can set up and have a view of the game.
“I think the way our stadium and surrounding grounds are laid out really lends itself to tailgating,” Faust said. “You can set up out here, still see the game and enjoy a great atmosphere,” Faust said.
The homecoming game will serve as a trial run.
“Everybody acts right, we do what we’re supposed to and clean up and all that good stuff, then we can do that more in the future,” Faust said.
Faust said he and Water Valley School District Superintendent Drew Pitcock discussed tailgating at other schools and whether something similar could work in Water Valley while also serving as a fundraiser.
The school is starting with about 50 spaces on both sides of the field house, although Faust said there is room to expand if demand warrants it.
Tailgating spaces are $100 and can be reserved through Faust or football booster club members.
Faust said the idea is simple — good food, a good time and, hopefully, a good football game. If the first attempt goes well, fans could see more of it in the future.
“We’re going to try it out,” Faust said. “If it works, maybe later on down the road we can do it more.”
