A Sunday of Remembrance and a Week of Fellowship

I pray everyone had a good week and you found yourself in the Lord’s favor. Sunday morning worship services were opened by Presleigh with the ringing of the bell.

Before beginning the message, we observed a moment of silence for those lost in the tragedy of Sept. 11. Bro. Grant Coffey’s message, “Tragedy, Terror and the Call,” focused on Luke 13:1-5 and Jesus’ teaching about the Galileans and the 18 people killed when the tower of Siloam fell.

We all face tragedies in our lives. Those who died at Siloam and those who perished on 9/11 were not being punished because their sins were worse than others. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. Jesus’ message reminds us that we must repent and be prepared because we do not know when our earthly lives will end. The important thing is where we go when we die. Glory and thanks be to God.

Our special music was “Lead Me Home,” sung by Grant with Opal and me on backup vocals and Leigh on piano. The song holds special meaning for Ms. Anne.

We start with a moment of sadness in the passing of Wayne Hardy. Our prayers and condolences go out to the family as they begin to navigate life without their patriarch. Wayne knew Jesus as his Lord and Savior. I pray you enjoy your heavenly rest after this long earthly journey.

I visited with Eric Stacy. Continue to pray for him as he learns to live life without Stephanie. Always remember that our strength comes from the Lord.

I would like to take a moment to brag on the talent coming and showing up at our little country church: Grant — lead vocal, harmony and guitar; Leigh Anne — upright bass, some fiddle and piano; Angela — lead female vocal, harmony and backup vocals; Opal — lead female vocal, harmony and backup vocals with more than 40 years’ experience on piano; Cody, Noah and Garrett — all self-taught and truly gifted on guitar; and Jonathan — self-taught on guitar and working toward learning upright bass.

Friday night we had music practice with Grant, Angela, Opal and myself. Pat and Jonathan joined us afterward with Pam and Joe Mize for dinner and fellowship at B.T.C. The burgers and service were five stars. Pam and I became friends some 48 years ago when we rode the same bus to school.

We were excited to see Missy and Andy Hall at B.T.C. as well. Some friendships never end or change, even with the busyness of life.

I can’t believe Riley Tucker is old enough to work. The years are slipping by so quickly.

It was also great to see Dr. Taylor Edwards out with his family at B.T.C. Congratulations to him on his beautiful girls!

Taylor took the Mt. Liberty children to Driver’s Flat Park this week.

Sam, Ryan and Cody will be traveling for work this week, while Noah will be returning from Texas as he awaits his next work assignment. We pray for safe travels.

Please remember Coyanna in her upcoming surgery Oct. 12. She will be out of commission for several weeks, and this puts her family under financial strain. Her son Zack is also sick with pneumonia and severely low potassium. Keep them in your prayers, and you can contact me for any further information.

A friend, Jesse Simmerman, has been suffering from migraines for weeks after an accident. He recently fell, and his wife called 911. I truly love his wife, Sandy. Jesse has also suffered broken vertebrae and had a subsequent heart attack. Your body tells you when something is wrong. Listen to it.
