Donations Requested For Cemetery Upkeep

  Members at Spring Hill North M.B. Church are again asking for donations for the upkeep and lawn services for the cemetery. “We are asking all families and members to help do your part in contributing to this annual requirement,” stated Roland Hoskins.

    Anyone interested  in contributing is asked to make checks, money orders, etc. payable to Spring Hill North M.B. Church, and send them to Spring Hill North Cemetery Fund, c/o Roland Hoskins, 331 Suggs St., Water Valley, MS 38965.

 

Lions Raffle Flat Screen Television

    The Water Valley Lions Club will have a raffle for a flat screen Vizio 32” LCD HDTV. The television will be given away during the noon ceremony at the Gazebo on Carnival Day, Saturday, August 1. Tickets are available from any Lions Club member. They are $1 each, or 6 for $5. Also, some Fridays, the Lions will showcase the television at a booth in front of Larsons Piggly Wiggly. On these days they will be playing CDs of vintage trains between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at these times.

 

Water Valley Class Of 1974 Announces Reunion Activities

    The Water Valley High School Class of 1974 has planned their 35th class reunion for Saturday, August 1, during the Watermelon Carnival Weekend. A tent will be set up in the park from Friday, 6 p.m., through Saturday, 3 p.m., for the classmates to visit. There will be a meal with entertainment on Saturday night. Rounsaville Family Reunion Is Scheduled Saturday

The Rounsaville family reunion will be held Sat., June 13, beginning at 10 a. m., in the City Auditorium on North Main Street in Grenada. A pot-luck lunch will be enjoyed at the noon hour. Beverages, plates, etc. will be furnished. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. For more information contact Betty R. Miller at 226-6975.

 

Murphree Genealogical Convention To Be Held In Oxford Mid-July

    The 2009 Murphree Genealogical Association convention will be held in Oxford on Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25. Activities include genealogy research, banquet and a tour of Murphree related historical sites.

    All events will be held at the Downtown Oxford Inn & Suites in Oxford. All Murphree decedents are welcome to all or any of the events during the convention. Cost start at $15.00 for genealogy research for both days. The banquet on Saturday night will be $37.00 per person

Eastern Star Bake Sale This Saturday

    St. Joseph Chapter No. 8, Order of Eastern Star will host a bake sale on Saturday, June 20. The sale will be from 8 a.m. until noon in front of Larson’s Piggly Wiggly. There will be plenty of cakes, pies, and banana bread. Everyone is invited to purchase these delicious homemade items, which will make perfect Father’s Day treats.

 

Masonic Temple Meeting Scheduled

 McConico Chapter No. 96 RAM & J. J. Melton Council No. 50 will hold regular scheduled meetings at the Masonic Temple on Champion Circle Thursday, June 11, beginning at 7:30 p.m. All members of these two Masonic bodies are encouraged to attend. Your help and support during this Masonic year is needed.

 

Pine Valley Trail Ride Re-Scheduled For This Saturday

  The Pine Valley Trail Ride has been re-scheduled for June 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. This trail ride is an annual event to benefit the renovation of the “Mississippi Landmark” Old School. Trail foremen are Ken Dorris and Cliff Gardiner. A meal for the participants will be provided at the end of trail.

 

Bingo Will Be Played This Friday

 VFW Bingo will be played Friday night, June 12. Come out and join VFW Post 4100 for a fun-filled night of bingo at their Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley. The building opens at 5:30 p.m., sales begin at 6 p.m., and the first of 24 games starts at 7 p.m. You must be at least 18 years of age to play.

 

Green Street Band To Play At VFW This Saturday Night

  Saturday night, June 13, VFW Post 4100 welcomes you to a musical night of entertainment by the Green Street Band. The band starts at 8 p.m. and plays until midnight. “Join us in listening or dancing to country music at the VFW Post Home, located at 11535 Highway 315, west of Water Valley,” stated Commander Sam Phillips. Scholarship Fund Honors Woodard

  The Pine Grove Baptist Church’s Missionary Society will sponsor a memorial scholarship fund drive in memory of Natasha Nicole Woodard. This will be a Bar-B-Que Fun Day at Dexter Brown’s Car Lot in Water Valley on June 13. All proceeds will go to the scholarship fund, which will be set up at Mechanics Bank in Water Valley. Anyone wishing to make a donation can do so at Mechanics Bank. Preliminary plans are to award two scholarships each year that can be given to be used at colleges of the recipient’s choice.

 

Church Will Maintain Cemetery

  As of June 15, Camp Ground Baptist Church will accept the responsibility of maintaining the Camp Ground Cemetery. Virgil Nelson, Jr. is no longer available to maintain this cemetery. The church would like to thank Mr. Nelson, his late father, and others for their time and dedication in caring for the cemetery for the past years. If anyone would like to make a donation for the maintenance and upkeep of Camp Ground Cemetery, please make your donations payable to Camp Ground Cemetery Fund at Mechanics Bank.

 

Gospel Tones Celebrate 23rd Anniversary In Yalobusha County

    Gospel Tones will celebrate their anniversary June 21, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Civic Auditorium at Water Valley. Everyone is invited to help the Gospel Tones celebrate their 23rd anniversary. Admission is free. The program will feature the honorees, with special guests, The Mighty Gospel Warriors of Bruce, and many more.
