WATER VALLEY – This year has been a successful year for Compassion Ministries. As we enter the second decade of service to our community, we find that more people than ever are in need of the services of Compassion Ministries.

Fortunately, we have been able to rise to the occasion and meet these increased needs. The approaching holiday season in November and December will test our mettle and our ability to meet the needs of even more families than in the recent past.

We are very grateful for the compassionate individuals, foundations, and the BorgWarner Corporation, who along with several churches, provide financial support and labor to Compassion Ministries on a regular basis. The supporting churches are First Baptist Church, First Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Adoni Church, Springdale Family Worship Center, Jumpers Chapel, Bethel Baptist Church, O’Tuck-olofa Baptist Church, Sylva Rena Baptist Church, and Woodland Hills Baptist Church.

It is with a great deal of excitement that we look ahead to the activities of this holiday season. The annual community wide Thanksgiving service will take place on Wednesday evening, November 24, at 7 p.m. in Woodland Hill Baptist Church at Water Valley.

The speaker for the night will be Reverend Barry Dickerson, pastor  of First Methodist Church. An offering will be received to help with the cost of the Thanksgiving meal served to the clients of Compassion Ministries.

The Thanksgiving meal will be served at the White Star Kitchen in Water Valley. Serving will begin at 10:30 in the morning and will be completed by 11:30 a.m. Many people from the churches supporting Com-passion Ministries will be at White Star Kitchen to serve those in attendance.

Each church is asked to provide two desserts for the meal. We greatly appreciate the generosity of John and Becky Tatum and their making the White Star Kitchen facilities and staff available for this wonderful occasion.

This year, because of the pressing need for extra food, we are asking the churches to make a “food box” drive in lieu of Christmas gifts. Individuals will be asked to contribute $20/$25 to a special offering which will be designated for the purchase of a needed box of food.

All who wish to make a contribution to this special food drive, or to Compas-sion Ministries for any purpose, may do so by sending a check made to “Compassion Food Ministries” to our treasurer, Margie Pilcher, 22 Camp Ground Road 389, Water Valley, MS 38965.
