WATER VALLEY – Have you ever wanted to reach up inside a giant nose in search of a prize?
You can do just that this Friday and it’s snot as gross as it sounds.
The giant nose pick is just one of many games that can be found at the annual Davidson Elementary School Fall Festival set for this Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the school on North Court Street.
You can hula-hoop a pumpkin, fish a ducky out of the duck pond, or try you luck at the raffle booth, said Christie Lowery, festival chairman. “We’ve gotten all kinds of gift certificates as prizes from local businesses.”
Among the prizes is a complete child’s-size Ole Miss football uniform and a signed baseball from Ole Miss.
“We have a lot of community support,” Lowery said, including participation from the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Junior Auxiliary.
All the teachers at DES participate and about 70 parents will be helping out, she added. Additionally, there will be some students from Ole Miss, members of the high school Beta Club, and the WVHS cheerleaders will all be on hand.
There’ll also be plenty of food available at the concession stand. “Nachos, hot dogs, snow cones and soft drinks,” Lowrey said, listing the goodies.
The annual event started as a kindergarten project about 20 years ago and was run for many years by teacher Lou Ann Holt. “It went school wide and is a major fundraiser for DES,” Lowrey continued.
Last year’s festival brought in about $6500, according to Principal Chester Drewery. “The whole community is welcome,” he added. “The more people we have the more we like it.”
