Parades Set Across County

Grand Marshal Doris Cox leads the annual Christmas Parade down Main Street in 2010. Her driver is Tax Collector/Assessor Linda Shuffield with escort Charlie Shuffield.
WATER VALLEY – Butch and Ann Surrette have been selected as Grand Marshals of the 2011 Water Valley Christmas Parade.
The retiring Yalobusha County Supervisor and his wife will lead the annual parade down Main Street beginning at 1 p.m. this Saturday.
The Surrettes have been active ambassadors for the Water Valley Community for many years, according to J. C. Womble, parade chairman. “Through the years, the Surrettes have worked with the county and state offices of Yalobusha county and have helped many people.”
“For their many years of service and dedication to Yalobusha County, the City of Water Valley and the surrounding community, the Tri-Lake Fairground Association is proud to honor the Surrettes as the Grand Marshals of the 2011 Water Valley Christmas Parade,” Womble said.
The parade chairman noted that most of the entries from last year are returning in addition to many new comers to this year’s Christmas Parade.
He also stated that the latest news release from the North Pole said that Santa and Mrs. Claus would be flying in just for the Water Valley event. Prior to the Christmas Parade, the jolly gent will be on the Pavilion from 10 to 12:30 to visit with the children and have pictures made by Defining Moments Photography. Also, the “Yes Virginias,” known as Oxford’s number one swinging holiday ensemble, will perform from 11:30 to 12:30.
The parade will broadcast from the Railroad Park Pavilion over Q93 radio with Master of Ceremony Rick Mize and will be recorded and aired at a later date on the local channel.
The Tri-Lakes Fairground Association will have a concession stand selling grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, cold drinks and hot chocolate next to the bandstand. The concession will have food ready to sell at 11 a.m, Womble added.
If you have not already entered the Christmas Parade line-up, but wish to have a entry in the parade, contact Womble at 473-3190 or email jcwomble53 @yahoo.com or Bobby Murphree at 473-2501. “It’s never too late to enter and there’s no entry fee,” he said.
