State’s Compensation Fund Pays Yalobusha Victims

JACKSON –  Attorney General Jim Hood announced last week that innocent victims of violent crimes in Mississippi received more than $3.7 million in essential financial assistance in fiscal 2016 to help pay for medical treatment and other expenses. 

Yalobusha County victims received $23,956.80 from the fund, according to the AG’s office.

The Crime Victim Compensation program, administered by the Attorney General’s Office, distributed $3,747,754.61 to 1,163 victims of crime in Mississippi who were in need of financial support due to injuries related to the criminal acts perpetrated against them.

Payments into Crime Victim Compensation program are collected by the Yalobusha County Circuit Clerk’s office when defendants make court cost payments following sentencing, Circuit Clerk Daryl Burney said. The money is then forwarded to the Attorney General.
