WATER VALLEY – Columbus attorney John Brady was just trying to support Rotary when he purchased three raffle tickets from Water Valley Rotarian, Upton Reynolds, at the Rotary tent during the Water Valley Watermelon Carnival.
Brady, who is a Rotarian himself as well as a candidate for a position on the Mississippi State Supreme Court, thought no more about the matter until he received a phone call from the president of the Water Valley Rotary Club the evening after the August 6 ticket drawing.
She informed him that he was the grand prize winner of a riding lawnmower.
Although he was surprised and gratified, Brady now was confronted with the logistics of transporting a piece of equipment that he did not really need 112 miles from Water Valley to Columbus. After giving the matter some consideration, he decided to donate the lawnmower back to the Water Valley Rotary Club. This time, it was the local club members’ turn to be surprised and gratified.
On Tuesday, September 6 the local Rotarians welcomed Mr. Brady warmly to their luncheon meeting at the Melon Vine. He spoke to them about his personal background, his family, his career in law, and about why he decided to become a candidate for the State Supreme Court. He believes the Court needs judges, who adhere to the Constitution in making their decisions. He identified himself as a Christian and a conservative, and a candidate who would look to the Constitution for guidance as a judge.
