WATER VALLEY – After a two year absence, Yalobusha County’s Relay for Life will be returning Saturday, October 15, at Railroad Park in downtown Water Valley. This year’s theme is “Wish Upon A Cure” and activities get underway at 4 p.m. as organizers hope to raise big bucks to help find a cure for cancer.
If you or a loved one are a cancer survivor, make plans to join the celebration with the survivors’ walk at 4 p.m. The 3 Mile Run/Walk follows at 4:30 p.m. and everybody is encouraged to participate. There is a $25 entry fee for the run, which includes a t-shirt. The first three finishers in the run will be awarded medals.
Next on the night’s agenda is the survivors’ dinner, sponsored by the Water Valley Rotary Club, as our friends and neighbors who have endured will be treated to a meal at the depot.
Other activities include entertainment by the Sharecroppers, students from Rockette Studio and more great entertainers in this family-friendly event.
Luminaries ($10) and sky lanterns ($25) will be available to purchase before and during the event. T-shirts can also be purchased for $15. The items can be purchased from Veronica McCullar at 662-417-8874, or Missy Burney at 662-809-8094. A limited supply of t-shirts will be available at the event, but more can be printed based on demand.
“It has been over 2 years since our county has sponsored a relay fundraiser,” Burney told the Herald. “We would really like to rebuild this event and raise an enormous amount of money to help in the fight and cure of cancer.”
Multiple corporate sponsors have contributed generous donations including BorgWarner, Mechanics Bank, Joe Black Associates and Turnage Drugs. Other businesses have generously donated items for the raffle including BTC Grocery, Sartain’s Hardware, G.G.’s, The Cottage Tea Room, Larson’s Piggly Wiggly, Daryl Burney and others.
“Please join us for an evening of celebration, remembrance, and fighting back. We shall be Wishing Upon A Cure!” McCullar added.
