WATER VALLEY – It may be hard to believe, but Christmas is just around the corner and downtown merchants are kicking off the festive season with an open house celebration this Saturday scheduled from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
An annual event, the Water Valley Chamber of Commerce sponsors the open house allowing hundreds of shoppers to get an early start on their Christmas list. This year looks even more promising with beautiful fall weather in the forecast.
Almost 20 businesses are participating and merchandise ranges from arts and crafts to clothes and tools, and from groceries and food to home decor and printing supplies. There are gifts for everyone on your list, so take a look at the special section inside this week’s Herald for holiday shopping ideas.
The itinerary Saturday also includes door prizes, music, gift-wrapping, refreshments and tons of bargains. The Water Valley Rotary Club is also getting in on the action with a chili cook-off and more than two dozen cooks have signed up to compete with entries that will be judged and served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
During the day, shoppers can register to win door prizes at participating businesses and a chance at the top prize, a 40-inch television or a recliner. Other door prizes range from gift certificates to store merchandise as businesses have donated awesome items to entice shoppers.
Businesses that are participating in the open house and will be open during the shopping time are The B.T.C. Old Fashioned Grocery, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, G.G.’s Flowers and Gifts, Larson’s Piggly Wiggly, Magnolia Home Furnishings, El Charitto, The Furniture Store, Turnage Drug Store, Sartain’s True Value, Village Flower Shoppe, B & H Flowers, Midtown Auto Parts, Crawdad Hole, South Main, Bozarts Gallery, Hometown Pizza and Rip It Up.
