WATER VALLEY – Retired Brig. General and Water Valley native Roger Shields will be the speaker at Friday’s Veterans Day program at the VFW Post 4100.
Shields is a 1965 graduate of Water Valley High School and has an extensive military career that spanned more than 38 years, 32 of which were full-time positions with the Army National Guard including his last full—time assignment as the Chief of Staff of the Mississippi National Guard where he was responsible for more than 3,000 full-time employees and an annual budget of more than $420 million.
The program, held annually on the signing of the armistice which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918, starts at 11 a.m. at the VFW post. The post is located at 11535 Hwy. 315, just north of the Water Valley city limits.
