First District Constable Held In Contempt Of Court

By David Howell

WATER VALLEY – Yalobusha County’s First District Constable Ralph Horton was jailed last week for contempt of court for failure to pay child support. According to the Yalobusha County jail docket, Horton was booked Wednesday, Nov. 30, and released Friday, Dec. 2, after making a $3,000 payment.

Horton was taken into custody following a Notice of Hearing to review the case by Chancery Court Judge Percy Lynchard on Nov. 30 in Tate County. The judgment of contempt was rendered against Horton on August 24 and follows a string of court hearings in which he was placed in contempt of court for failure to pay the monthly $605 child support payment plus $200 per month toward the arrearage.

According to the court documents, Horton owes over $30,000 in back child support, attorney fees and court costs.
