Candidate List Grows To Seven In Water Valley

WATER VALLEY – One new candidate has surfaced in Water Valley after Hubert “Herbie” Rogers qualified to run for mayor late last week.

Rogers is a longtime volunteer fire fighter, previously serving as chief at Velma Fire Department. He also serves as the county’s deputy EMA director. He works at Windsor Foods. 

Rogers joins six other candidates in Water Valley who have also submitted paperwork to run for municipal office. The candidates include incumbent Donald Gray and Amos Harvey for alderman-at-large, incumbent Bobby Cox and Kagan Coughlin for Ward One Alderman, incumbent Fred White for Ward Two, and incumbent Phillip Tallant for Ward Three. All seven of the candidates qualified to run as a Democrat. 

Incumbent Mayor Larry Hart previously told the Herald he will seek another term, but has not qualified.

Candidates must qualify by 5 p.m. Friday, March 3 to run for municipal office. Tuesday, May 2 is Primary Election Day, and the Primary Runoff Day is Tuesday, May 16. The General Election is scheduled June 6.
