TILLATOBA – A fugitive wanted out of Missouri was captured by Yalobusha County deputies following a vehicle pursuit last Tuesday, Feb. 21. Sheriff Lance Humphreys reported Matthew Ballard was taken into custody following a chase that ended in Holly Springs National Forest.
Investigator Jerimaine Gooch responded to Tillatoba Truck Stop after receiving a call about a truck driving recklessly through the parking lot. Gooch made contact with the subject on Hwy. 330 and pursued him until his truck played out.
Humphreys said it was not a high speed chase, but Gooch’s new police cruiser was covered in mud after traveling on the roads in the national forest following a recent rain.
“It was only the second day the car was in service,” Humphreys added.
Ballard was charged with DUI, driving without license, no proof of liability insurance and felony fleeing. He will also be extradited back to Cape Girardeau County, Missouri were he is wanted for probation violation.
Humphreys added that he was living on County Road 68 with a family member prior to his arrest.
