WATER VALLEY – Two more candidates have qualified to run for mayor in the City of Water Valley during the last week.
Terry L. Rockette and Cynthia E. Harmon will seek the mayoral seat, bringing the candidate tally to three for the city’s top elected position. Herbert Rogers also qualified in January for the position. All three candidates are running on the Democratic ticket.
In Ward Four, Nicole Folson has also qualified to run, challenging incumbent Larry Bell. Folson will run as a Democrat and Bell as an independent.
In Ward 3, Sandra R. Williams qualified, bringing the candidate tally in that race to three. Phillip Tallant and Cinnamon Foster have also qualified. All three are running as Democrats.
Previously reported candidates qualifying in Water Valley include Donald Gray and Amos Harvey for Alderman-at-Large; Kagan Coughlin and Bobby J. Cox for Ward 1 Alderman; and Freddie Folson and Fred White for Ward 2.
In Coffeeville and Oakland, the list of candidates has not changed since last week’s report In Coffeeville the list of candidates include Mack Burns for Mayor, Eva L. Longstreet for Ward 1 Alderman, George Miller for Ward 2 Alderman and Michael Ayers for Ward 4 Alderman.
In Oakland, the candidates include James Swearengen for Mayor, and George Booker, Terry Ellis, Sharonda Jones, Marzet Bland and Joe Willie Jenkins for aldermen. Aldermen run as independent candidates in Oakland, and the top five vote getters are elected.
Candidates must qualify by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 3 to run for municipal office. Tuesday, May 2 is Primary Election Day and the Primary Runoff Day is Tuesday, May 16. The General Election is scheduled June 6.
