Bass Awarded Murphy-Martin Endowment Fund

John Tyler Bass, a Water Valley resident and student at Oxford High School, was recently awarded the Murphy-Martin Endowment Fund, Grand Lodge of Mississippi, F. & A.M. scholarship.  He is the 2017 recipient from north Mississippi. The $1000 scholarship is given each year to a student who meets rigorous criteria and is chosen by the scholarship committee.  Tyler had to meet the criteria for the scholarship and be recommended by two Master Masons who are not related to him.  He currently has a 4.0 GPA and also received a Presidential Scholarship from Northwest Mississippi Community College, which he will attend in the fall.  

He has been involved in many activities while at OHS including the National Honor Society, Beta Club and Latin Honor Society.  He has been a member of the Chess Club, Future Educators of America as well as, the Spanish Club.

The award was presented by Master Mason Phil Douglas.  Those in attendance included Mr. Bradley Roberson, principal of Oxford High School, and his parents James and Jennifer Bass.
