WATER VALLEY – The Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) has awarded $640,000 in grant funding for work at Yalobusha General Hospital that will include interior and exterior renovations, plus the addition of a second floor that will house a geropsychology unit.

“Yalobusha County has demonstrated its commitment to addressing the needs of the local community,” Governor Phil Bryant reported last week in a letter stating the Community Development Block Grant had been awarded for the project. “I commend you for identifying this need and for helping improve the quality of life for those in your community,” Bryant added.

The $4 million dollar project will be bid this summer and hospital administrator Terry Varner reported the geropsychology unit will start serving patients in October, 2018.

Varner also previously reported that the project is part of a broader $8 million long-range plan that also includes constructing an assisted living center and wellness center.
