80 Grads To Receive Diplomas

WATER VALLEY– Eighty seniors are expected to don the blue cap and gown and walk across the stage at the Blue Devil high school football field Friday night, marking the first time the ceremony has been held in Water Valley in more than a decade. Graduation activities will begin promptly at 7 p.m.

At presstime Tuesday, school officials were still tallying the final grades to determine the valedictorian, salutatorian and honor students.

Superintendent Dr. Michael McInnis reported at last week’s school board meeting that a graduation committee was appointed to help handle the logistics of brining the commencement back to Water Valley this year.   For the last 15 years the event was held on the Ole Miss Campus at the Tad Smith Coliseum.

“They have worked really hard on the graduation,” McInnis said about the committee.  The stage will be placed on the 50 yard-line and seniors will enter the field from the field house.

Handicap parking will be available in front of the main entrance on the home side of the football field. A drive through will also be available, to drop off to a handicap or elderly attendee. The field house parking lot will be reserved for school administrators. Parking for graduates will be located in the parking lot across Wise Street. A golf cart will also be available to assist people who need help getting to the football field stands. The visitors’ entrance will be closed.

In case of inclement weather, an alternate time will be announced by the school.
