It’s Not Too Late To Spruce Up The Town

Chamber of Commerce President Linda Maynor (both photos above) is getting the ball rolling on the community-wide decorating contest with beautiful decor in her yard.

It’s time to dress up the town for the Watermelon Carnival and two decorating contests are underway to help promote a festive atmosphere.

The Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a contest for Water Valley businesses. Any business is eligible to enter. The grand prize will be $100, with the second place winner receiving $75, and third place will get $50. Judging is scheduled the last week of July. The drawing will be held at the gazebo on August 5 and winners will be announced and prizes awarded at that time. All businesses are encouraged to begin decorating early and to enter the contest. Entry forms are available at the Chamber of Commerce and must be turned in to the Chamber by Friday, July 28 to be eligible for judging.

The second contest, sponsored by The Garden Club of Water Valley, is for the residents of the city. The grand prize in this contest will be $50; second place will be $30; and the third place winner will receive $20. Applications can be found in several locations around town, including Turnage Drug Store, Larson’s Piggly Wiggy, Sprint Mart, and the Herald Office. Call B.B. Thomas  at (662) 473-4901, or Hank Ducey at 1-214-244-9198 for more information about the contest.
