COFFEEVILLE – An arrest was made Monday following a string of automobile burglaries in Coffeeville that occurred over the weekend. Sheriff Lance Humphreys reported Zacharious Turner, age 18, was arrested Monday following a joint operation between the sheriff’s department and the Coffeeville Police Depart-ment.
Humphreys said Turner is a suspect in as many as eight automobile burglaries in Coffeeville and one residential burglary on County Road 89.
The arrest also follows a string of auto burglaries that occurred during the early morning hours last Thursday in Water Valley. (See related story, page 1)
Humphreys did not speculate if the burglaries were connected.
“We are assisting Water Valley and Coffeeville with these cases,” Humphreys said.
The sheriff explained that Turner was arrested following a sting operation after Coffeeville police provided information that he was using a mobile classified application on his phone to sell the stolen items.
“We set up a fake account and arranged to purchase some of the items that were stolen from the residence on County Road 89,” the sheriff explained. Turner was taken into custody at a residence on County Road 436 without incident. He was charged with burglary and grand larceny.
Turner was also arrested earlier in July by the Coffeeville Police Department and charged with burglary of an automobile.
He was out on bond when he was apprehended.
