Gurner Frames Moon And Sun With Familiar Landmark

I am not a pop culture event sort of guy. But, I have always been a bit of a science nerd and I enjoy celestial events. I have never been this close to a solar eclipse and I am getting older, so I wanted to enjoy it.

I also wanted to see if I couldn’t get some interesting photographs of something more than just a sliver of light in a dark sky. I wanted something familiar and very Water Valley to share the frame with the sun and moon.

I tried to come up with some item high enough and small enough to work. That’s where the finials on Eddie and Mari Foster’s home on Church Street – the Captain Price house – come in. I have been fascinated by the historic home since I was four or five. I could see the house from my grandparent’s home on Panola Street if I climbed up on the old chicken house at the top of the hill.

So, I moved the camera around until I was able to frame everything together. And, I got this photograph. More than 60 years have passed since I first saw the house and it is still as fascinating as it was all those years ago.

And, the eclipse wasn’t half bad either.
