Work By Rufus Ross Is On Display At Renasant
Oil paintings of landscapes by Rufus Ross are on display at Renasant Bank as part of the rotating art show featuring local talent. Ross’ work in the lobby of the bank is several forms of art techniques, from wet on wet to scrubbing in paint.
Oil paintings by Rufus Ross are featured in Renasant Bank as the latest rotating art show highlighting local talent.
“Never would I have thought I would come close to painting anything, but the afro-haired man on PBS changed all of that for me,” Rufus Ross explained, citing the show of American painting, art instructor and television host Bob Ross.
Rufus Ross said he contacted a certified artist and attended classes for over a year. Then he went to New Smyma Beach, Fla. and was certified to teach the Bob Ross method to students.
“This method and the joy of painting is what got me interested,” Rufus Ross continued. He loves all styles, but grew into creating landscapes with oil. “I am very critical of what I display and maybe am too hard on myself, but I want to achieve the most realistic picture I can,” he added.
He also encourages anyone to give it a try and is available to show and talk to others about what he has learned and continues to learn.

He lives in neighboring Lafayette County and retired from the USDA and the Mississippi National Guard. Outside of art he enjoys elk hunting in Colorado. He is also an active member of Anchor Baptist Church where he often sings specials and is a member of the choir.
