AT&T Unveils New Technology For Internet

WATER VALLEY – Several rural areas in Yalobusha will now have an option for high-speed wireless internet after AT&T rolled out new technology added to three cell towers in Yalobusha and five towers in neighboring Lafayette County.
Customers must live within several miles of the towers that include locations near Scobey, Tillatoba and Oakland in Yalobusha County. One of the towers in Lafayette County will also cover a small portion of northeast Yalobusha County.
In a press conference Monday, Mississippi AT&T President Mayor Flynt reported that AT&T’s Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers a home internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps, fast enough for customers to download, surf and stream their favorite movies or television shows. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on customers’ homes or businesses.
Flynn said the Fixed Wireless Internet service is part of an effort by AT&T to extend broadband connectivity to rural and underserved areas as part of its Federal Communications Commission-Connect America Fund commitment. Flynn also said the commitment includes the service being added to more towers in Yalobusha County, but the locations have not yet been determined. AT&T plans to reach over 400,000 locations across 18 states by the end of 2017 and over 1.1 million locations by 2020.
Customers can contact AT&T at 1-877-990-0041 to determine if they can order the service. The company will also provide updates about additional availability as the service is expended. The monthly cost ranges from $50 to $70, depending on if the service is bundled with other AT&T products.
