WATER VALLEY – Yalobusha County Veteran Service Officer (VSO) Joe Black reported a free commemorative book, A Time To Honor, is available to eligible veterans who served in the Vietnam War.

The First Mississippi Edition Commemorative Gift is a printing of 20,000 copies that are specific to Mississippi and will be presented, free of charge, to Mississippi veterans who served in the Vietnam area of Operations. Black said to receive a copy of the initial printing, a veteran must show proof of honorable service in the Vietnam Area of Operation such as the Vietnam Service Medal as indicated on their DD Form 214.

“This book is available for veterans who had boots on the ground during Vietnam,” Black explained.

State Representative Tommy Reynolds added that he will have 15 copies of the book available during the annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony on Nov. 11.

“We want to make sure that all of our local veterans who served in Vietnam receive a copy of this commemorative book,” Reynolds told the Herald.

Black estimated there are 250 Vietnam veterans living in the county.  Veterans who wish to receive a copy of the book can contact Black at (662) 473-1441.
