The Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America (FCCLA) at Water Valley High School thank the community for donating funds to attend their Capitol Leadership and National Cluster meeting in Washington D.C.
It was a huge success. We got a chance to meet our Senator, Roger Wicker and Representative Bennie Thompson. Burney Sanders rode with us on the elevator and John McCain took a picture with us.
Representative, Bennie Thompson gave our group passes to the House of Representative Gallery to watch debates and see how a bill is passed. At the time of our visit, they were debating on the Tax Bill. The students were able to see how laws impact their family.
We were also scheduled to meet with Senator Cochran. However, he was in the gallery voting on a bill. So, we met with his aide, Harrison. The students responded very well. On behalf of our school district that is struggling with funds and resources, I discussed the issues that I see as a teacher with books and a lack of educational materials to help our students grow. I asked Harrison if he and the Senator would be willing to visit Water Valley School District. He stated that they have visited Madison and other newly built schools.
Hopefully, we will receive a response. If not, we will keep trying.
Again, we thank our community for helping us accomplish our goal.
We are the future leaders of America, Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)
