Stores Open Late Friday

The forecast looks perfect for this weekend’s Christmas in the Valley as a variety of activities are scheduled to promote local businesses and provide holiday cheer. The action gets underway Friday night as a pair of horse drawn carriages will start picking up passengers in front of the Chamber office on Main Street, starting at 5:30 p.m.

To serenade the clippity-clop of horse hooves traveling through town, music performances will begin at 6 p.m. at the bandstand in Railroad Park. Local stores will remain open later on Friday night for your shopping pleasure and groups will be selling food and beverages as part of the Chamber of Commerce sponsored event.

Second Chance Animal Alliance will sell hot dogs, drinks, and raffle tickets.   Junior Auxiliary will have hot cider and coffee available.  JA members will also offer “Pictures with Santa” and assist the chamber with the carriage rides.  Frosty will also make the trip to Water Valley again this year and will be happy to pose for pictures with folks!

The festive spirit continues Saturday with the anticipated Christmas parade. The participants will roll down Main Street at 1 p.m., starting at First Baptist Church and proceeding southward.

Also on Saturday, Dec 2nd, the Chamber will sponsor a “Country Christmas” Tour of Homes from 4 to 7 p.m.  Wristband tickets are $10.00 each and may be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce Office during the parade and any time this week during regular office hours.  Tickets will also be available at the office for one hour before the Tour begins.  The ticket price includes an armband which must be worn and displayed at each home to gain entrance.

Refreshments will be served at each of the beautifully-decorated homes.  All locations on this year’s tour are located west of the Hwy. 7 by-pass, in the Sylva Rena community.  Included are the Booker, Hyde, Knight, and Lee homes, as well as the Big Springs Church.
